Why Do Clients Receive Two Emails After a Purchase?

CoreBookings does not send two purchase receipt emails for one payment. There is no separate tax invoice email and no separate purchase confirmation receipt.

For each successful pass, membership, or product payment, CoreBookings sends one purchase receipt. If a client also books a class at the same time, they may receive a second email: a booking confirmation. That is a different email type, not a duplicate receipt.

Short answer #

  • One payment = one purchase receipt. Subject line: Payment receipt followed by your studio name.
  • No separate tax invoice email. If your studio collects tax, the subtotal, tax, and total appear on the same purchase receipt.
  • Two emails usually means receipt + booking. The client paid for a pass and also received a booking confirmation for a class.
  • Purchase receipts cannot be turned off. They are always sent for successful payments.

Purchase receipt email #

The purchase receipt (also called a payment receipt) confirms a successful payment. CoreBookings sends it after every successful pass, membership, workshop, or product purchase, including cash and EFTPOS payments recorded in the dashboard.

The receipt includes:

  • Item purchased (pass name, membership, or product)
  • Amount paid and payment method
  • Date and time of the transaction
  • Visit or expiry details when relevant
  • Tax breakdown when your studio collects tax (see below)

CoreBookings sends only one receipt per transaction. The system will not send duplicate receipts for the same payment.

Booking confirmation email #

A booking confirmation is separate from a purchase receipt. It confirms that a class booking was created. It includes class name, date, time, and location.

Clients receive a booking confirmation when:

  • They book a class online after buying a pass
  • They book and pay in one checkout flow
  • Staff books them into a class from the schedule (when booking confirmations are enabled)

This is expected behaviour. The purchase receipt confirms payment. The booking confirmation confirms the class reservation.

Tax on purchase receipts #

CoreBookings does not email a separate tax invoice. When tax collection is enabled for your studio, the purchase receipt shows:

  • Subtotal (ex. tax)
  • Tax amount and rate
  • Total paid

Configure tax under SettingsBusiness. Australian physio studios with private health provider details enabled may also see provider information on the same receipt. That is still one email, not a second invoice.

When clients get two emails #

Common scenarios:

  1. Buy a pass and book a class → purchase receipt + booking confirmation
  2. Buy only a pass (no booking) → purchase receipt only
  3. Book only (using an existing pass) → booking confirmation only
  4. Membership renewal → one purchase receipt per successful renewal payment

If a client reports duplicate receipts for the same payment, check their inbox for one Payment receipt and one Booking confirmation. The subjects and content are different.

Notification settings #

Where: Settings → Notifications

  • Purchase receipts are always sent. The toggle is locked on because receipts are required for payment records.
  • Booking confirmation can be turned on or off under Customer Notifications. Turn it off only if you do not want clients to receive class booking emails.
